A 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province at 12:52 on September 5. As of 14:00 on September 7, the earthquake had caused 74 deaths in Ganzi and Ya'an, and the water, electricity, transportation, communications, and other infrastructure had been partly damaged.
