Minister Sean Song, Counsellor Chen Ping and Counsellor Zou Xi of Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their company visited Tianqi Lithium (Shehong) Co., Ltd. for investigation on July 15, 2021, accompanied by Jing Lin, Deputy Secretary of Suining Municipality, Miao Ronghua, Director of Pacific Ocean Division of Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, and Zhang Kuan, Deputy Secretary of Shehong Municipality.

Accompanied by Xiong Wanyu, Vice President of Tianqi Lithium, and Du Mingze, Deputy General Manager of Shehong Tianqi, Minister Sean Song and his company visited Shehong base and listened to introductions of the company's history, production and operations, foreign investment and social responsibility practices.

The symposium gave Minister Sean Song and his company a deep understanding of Tianqi’s overseas investment. According to Minister Sean, Tianqi’s acquisition of Chilean miner SQM’s 23.77% equity in 2018 attracted much local attention as a major project for a Chinese enterprise to invest in South America. This investigation was aimed to facilitate Chinese enterprises to explore the Latin American market, better serve and support local Chinese enterprises and comprehensively implement the principles and policies of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council focusing on making enterprises "go global".

Xiong Wanyu, Vice President of Tianqi, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, Suining Municipal Committee and Municipal Government for supporting the company’s foreign investment. Building on its current strength and resources, Tianqi will, as she said, keep track of both domestic and global situations, expand its overseas projects in a steady pace and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality and building a green economy.
