A 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province at 12:52 on September 5. As of 14:00 on September 7, the earthquake had caused 74 deaths in Ganzi and Ya'an, and the water, electricity, transportation, communications, and other infrastructure had been partly damaged. The Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Relief Command has activated a level 1 emergency response.

After learning about the disaster, Tianqi Lithium promptly responded. The company and its subsidiary Sichuan Tianqi Shenghe Lithium Co., Ltd. (Yajiang) donated 10 million yuan for the earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction in Luding county, Ganzi Prefecture. This included a cash donation of 9,367,500 yuan. An additional emergency supplies worth 632,500 yuan have been sent to the affected area.
