On March 13th, the International Lithium Association (ILiA) released the first guidelines, providing standardized methods for accounting for the carbon footprint of battery-grade lithium carbonate and battery-grade lithium hydroxide production processes worldwide. Tianqi Lithium was invited to participate in the drafting and review of the world's first Product Carbon Footprint Guidelines for the lithium industry.

Product carbon footprint calculates all greenhouse gas emissions generated by a product throughout its lifecycle stages. Tianqi Lithium's involvement in the drafting and review of the guidelines over more than a year not only solidified the foundation of lithium industry product carbon footprint accounting and methodology but also facilitated systematic management of product carbon emissions for lithium upstream enterprises.

Participating in the drafting process were five main editorial units including the International Lithium Association Sustainable Lithium Industry Working Group Committee, Tianqi Lithium, Albemarle from the United States, Arcadium, Pilbara Minerals Limited, and Piedmont Lithium. Also involved were lithium industry projects, chemical experts (including battery active materials), engineers, professional service providers, and resource recyclers from around the world. The head of the International Lithium Association (ILiA) stated, "For any work that requires determining the carbon footprint of lithium products, these guidelines will be a primary reference document."
