For centuries, Chile has been referred to as “the end of the world.”

Chilean poet Pablo Neruda once wrote that

“Anyone who hasn't been in the Chilean forest doesn't know this planet.”

School of Public Administration, Sichuan University

warmly welcomed students from Chile with joy and laughter

In the presence of representatives from Sichuan University (SCU), the University of Chile, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), the University of Antofagasta (UA), the International Scientific Exchange Foundation of China (ISEFC), and Tianqi Lithium Corporation (TLC), the China-Chile University Student Scientific and Cultural Exchange Programmes has officially commenced!

Martin Ignacio

The student currently holding the stuffed panda was also the representative who spoke at the opening ceremony. His name is Martin Ignacio

He is a 25-year-old graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in computer science at the University of Concepción in Chile. He told us that before embarking on his journey, he conducted research and discovered that Chile is one of the countries in the world farthest from China. “This is my first time visiting China, and my family and friends are proud that I could seize this valuable opportunity. They told me not to come back if I couldn't see a panda.”

Martin talked to us most about pandas, and the stuffed panda has been tightly held since he entered the room. However, Martin also told everyone that all the students selected today were aware of China's leading global position in technology, mining, new energy, and electric vehicles. Then, everyone would devote themselves to education in the next four weeks. We hope to make the most of this valuable opportunity, at SCU and TLC, deepen our knowledge in efficient water resource utilization and regeneration, whole-life carbon footprint assessment, ecology and environmental protection, and direct lithium extraction in response to global climate change, and put what we learn into practice.
