To facilitate economic and trade interactions as well as foster investment collaboration between China and Chile, the inaugural ceremony of the 8th Chile Week in 2023 took place in Chengdu on October 15th. Chilean President Gabriel Boric attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, and Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism Nicolás Grau were also in attendance. Zhang Wenyu, the Board Secretary and Vice President of Tianqi Lithium Corporation, was invited either.

Chile Week has been held in China since 2015. It is one of the largest and most significant promotional events organized by Chile in China in recent years. It has evolved into a crucial platform for strengthening the friendship between China and Chile while facilitating economic and trade interactions. This year, Chile Week will be held in Shenzhen, Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai, featuring nearly 40 activities, including product displays, investment discussions, and site visits.
This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile. The China-Chile relationship has consistently been a leader in China’s ties with Latin American and Caribbean nations. And their pragmatic cooperation serves as an exemplary model of win-win collaboration between China and Latin America. Against this background, the exchanges between Sichuan and Chile in various fields have deepened and achieved positive results.

After the opening ceremony, Zhang Wenyu discussed with Grau and Christoff Janse, the person responsible for investment and development. Mr. Grau introduced Chile’s abundant lithium resources and the favorable business environment for the development of new energy vehicles and the lithium industry. Mr. Zhang provided Grau and his delegation with an overview of Tianqi Lithium’s business performance, global presence, achievements in high-quality development as a public company, ESG initiatives, and global corporate governance practices. He also conveyed the company’s aspirations for sustainable development, emphasizing the efficient utilization of lithium resources and its contribution to achieving green low-carbon development.
